Information
My name is Jeremy Colvert and I am an assistant coach at
Sachse High School in Sachse, TX.  I think it is extremely
important for our kids to compete as much as possible.  Until now,
our lineman have had limited exposure to spring and summer
competitions.  A Lineman Challenge offers position specific
events to challenge our kids and allows them to compete in a fun
and safe environment.  This letter is to inform you about the
lineman challenge.  Should you decide to participate, please fill
out the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM found at my website,
www.thelinemanchallenge.com .  We will take the first 36

Please bring Liability Forms with you to Registration.  Payment
must be sent to the provided address.

Each team must consist of at least 5 athletes.  You can have up
to 12 athletes on a team, but all events only allow 5 members to
compete at a time.  You can mix and match who does what to
spread the events around and in the Harness Pulls you can
change up your team from one round to the next.  I recommend
each team consist of 10-12 athletes.

Water & Athletic Trainer will be provided.

Athletes will need to bring cleats, flats, gloves, sunscreen,
weight belts, and any other equipment that they may need.

Athletes must play on the Offensive or Defensive Line, no straight
skill position players. Athletes and coaches will respect the official’
s decisions and calls.  This is for the kids and we will be as
thorough as possible to make sure everything is run fairly and
cleanly.  Your help in making sure your kids are where they are
supposed to be on time will be appreciated.

Please talk to your athletes before hand about the different
events and how they are judged and timed so that there are fewer
questions when it is time to compete in the event.  We will strictly
enforce the rules for each event to ensure that everyone has the
same opportunity for success.

Points will be awarded to the top 10 teams in each of the events.
We will use a similar scoring system as Track & Field.  If there is a
tie, the tie-breaker will be the Best of 5 in the Harness Pulls
between the 2 schools.

Each team has been placed in a group of 4 teams.  We will follow
the schedule as closely as possible.  Each event is set for 20
minutes.

At the end of the competition, we will have the “Big Man on
Campus” Harness Pull Challenge.  Each school will select one
athlete to represent them.  We will have a round robin single
elimination tournament to determine the winner.  This event is for
no points, just bragging rights.

A map will be provided to assist teams in locating the different
events.

team and keep track with event information.

                EVENT DESCRIPTIONS AND RULES

1. Bench Press – 205 lbs. – Total # of reps for the 5 participants.
One rep is counted when ELBOWS lock out.  We will stop the
count when your team spotter touches the bar.

2. Fingle Fingers – Pole Flip – Each of the 5 participants will be
timed on how long it takes them to flip the pole 7 times.  All times
will be added together for the total team time.  The participants
can pick up the pole in any manner they wish, one hand or two,
so long as they begin the lift on the colored portion of the pole.
Any penalty will result in the addition of a 3 second addition to the
athlete’s time.  This event is from the WSM contest.  It consists of
a weighted pole attached to a hinge on one end.

3. Farmers Walk – 2  125 lb. Cylinders – 30 yard course – Each of
the 5 participants will start with the front edge of the cylinder on
the starting line, with their hands on the handles.  When the event
starts, they must pick the cylinders up and take them ahead 15
yards and around a barrel and back to the start.  Time will stop
when both cylinders are completely across the finish line.  A
competitor can bring the cylinders across one at a time, but they
must be carried.  A 3 second penalty will be added to the time for
any violation including knocking over the barrel.  All 5 times will be
added together to for the team overall time.

4. Atlas Stones – 5 weighted stones weighing 65-75-85-95-105
lbs. – Each participant will be required to stack each stone on top
of a barrel or plyo box in ascending order.  The heavier the stone,
the closer it will be to the barrel.  The athlete must start with both
hands on the 1st barrel.  The athlete must use 2 hands to carry
the stone.  Each stone has a T-bar handle to make carrying a
little easier.  As long as both hands are on the handle, any
method of carry will suffice.  Time of each contestant will be
added together to get the total team time.  A 3 second penalty will
be added to the total time for each violation.

5. Tire Flip – 1 Tractor Tire – 30 yard course – Each participant
will be required to flip a tractor tire 15 yards and then flip the tire
back to the finish line.  The entire tire must be across the 15 yard
line before returning and completely across the finish line before
time is stopped.  The tire must be flipped and not rolled.  The
athlete must make an attempt to control the tire and make it land
flat before continuing.  A verbal warning will be given before a 3
second penalty is added to the athlete’s time.  All 5 times will be
added together to for the team overall time.

6. Tire Pull – 1 Tractor Tire – 10 yard course – Each participant
will be required to pull a tractor tire with a rope hand over hand
towards them for a distance of 10 yards.  The participant must
remain inside the ring either sitting or standing.  The clock is
stopped when the front of the tire touches the finish line.  There
can be a spotter on the side to help take away the slack in the
rope.  Time of each contestant will be added together to get the
total team time.  A 3 second penalty will be added to the total time
for each violation.

7. Obstacle Course – Team Relay – Each participant will be
required to complete one of five portions of the obstacle course.
After each portion is completed, the participant must tag his
teammate before continuing on in the course.  There will be a 1
second penalty for each skipped exercise.  Example:  Speed
ladder, participant misses 3 squares, team will be penalized 3
seconds.  Each team gets one run through and the total time for
the team will be recorded

8. Truck Push – 40 yard course – Each 5 man team will receive 2
attempts at the truck push.  We will record the fastest overall time
for each team.  You will be allowed to rotate participants if you
choose.

9. Harness Pulls – 1 on 1 Match-up using “The Equalizer”
Harness – Each competitor will be strapped into a set of shoulder
harnesses with the goal of pulling your opponent to your finish
line.  The straps must remain on the shoulders and the athlete
must remain facing their finish line.  If the straps come off, the
contest will be reset.  If they come off of the same person twice,
the opposing team gets that win.  Each round (3) will consist of 5
pulls and no one athlete can compete for more than once time
per round.
